Woman linked to alleged staged-accident ring
A Durham, N.C., woman was charged with five counts of insurance fraud in connection with her alleged role in a staged-accident ring.
North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said Alesia Burnette, 45, allegedly participated in five different staged accidents, between May 2006 and April 2009. She allegedly filed claims to GMAC Insurance Co. for $7,200 in phony injuries sustained in the staged crashes, officials said.
Arrest warrants were issued for two other alleged participants, Randall Lee Bass and Nicholas Allen, who remained at large.
Burnette was being held in lieu of $10,000 bond.
