Britons with central heating cover left waiting for Warm Front boiler replacements

Friday, 5 Feb 2010, 2:19pm

Blane Judd is worried by the long waiting lists for boiler replacements.

The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering has expressed worries about the long waiting lists for Warm Front-funded boiler replacements.

Despite having central heating cover in place, some insurance customers are being left to wait for a replacement boiler for as long as 80 days, a new report has revealed.

The 2009 Warm Front Report found that the average waiting time for heating-related work throughout the country was 66 days, while households in London have had to wait the longest at 80 days.

In contrast, the shortest average waiting time was discovered to be in the north west at 53 days.

Blane Judd, the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering’s chief executive, expressed his unease at the long waiting lists for boiler replacements provided by Warm Front.

He said: “The recent cold weather will have significantly increased the length of time people will have to wait for installation and it is clearly unacceptable for those most vulnerable households to be without heating for so long.”

Mr Judd added that it is imperative prospective installers are in possession of the necessary qualifications to undertake the work to a good standard.

Meanwhile, the Warm Front website states that the scheme is funded by the government and has an allocated budget for the year.

It claims to have already helped more than two million Britons, however, the website warns that “due to high levels of demand, any works carried out under the scheme are currently taking longer to complete”.
