Pennsylvania is U.S. leader in high-risk insurance pool enrollments
Pennsylvania has enrolled about 1,600 people in the high-risk health insurance pools, established with federal health reform earlier this year.
PA Fair Care’s enrollment is about one-fifth of the national total, according to federal figures.
The federal health reform law, passed in March, required states to establish high-risk insurance pools for people with pre-existing conditions, who could not obtain coverage.

Veterans say insurer’s retained asset account handling ‘dishonest’
The American Legion, the nation’s largest war veterans’ service organization, criticized Prudential Insurance Co. of America’s handling of veterans benefits.
The organization, representing 2.5 million members in about 14,000 military facilities around the world, told a judge in Springfield, Mass., that Prudential’s policy on retained asset accounts, where the insurer collects interest on unpaid veterans’ life insurance benefits, is “unlawful and dishonest,” according to a Bloomberg News report.
The statement comes in response to a suit filed by families of diseased veterans, who have accused the unit of Newark, N.J.-based Prudential Financial of failing to comply with U.S.
